Aug 13, · Highlighting late task not working on all tasks Hi, I’m having problem getting Project highlighting all my late tasks, I am using the standard highlight which states: Status equals Late, and I am displaying the Status Field that does in fact show Late but yet the highlight only works on some of the Late tasks and not all of them. In the gantt chart area, right click and select “Bar Styles ” Under normal tasks, insert a row. Select an appearance you want for the bar. In the drop down menu under “replace.me Tasks” select “finished”. Now, all finished tasks are color coded. I’m still trying to figure out the correct options for late replace.mes: 3. Can I do it simple in project? Why don’t baselines “work” for you? Short of setting a deadline on every task much more work than saving a baseline , Project has no way of know what is late or overdue. Once you save a baseline, Project will automatically calculate any difference between the baseline finish and your current projected finish. The flag would be set to 1 if the task has a finish date in the past. You could eventually improve the model by using the status date instead of the current date, or using another date custom field “due date”, manually entered for each task and used instead of the finish date.
Better than that you could use the native “deadline” column to enter a deadline for each task and use it instead of the finish date. Then you could have a view with tasks grouped along the flag “overdue” yes or no. You could even colour the overdue tasks bars in the Gantt chart with a different colour when the flag is YES. Which date do you want to use for the comparaison?
You could try to replace the ; by the , symbol. Here is how I did it with the “date1” due date in the image below custom field which might be replaced by the finish date or deadline. Once done, configure the bar style as the screenshot below. Be aware to insert the new bar style BELOW the usual task blue bar style, adding flag1 as a condition.
Project seems to have the problem with CurrentDate – at least it is what it highlights when complaining about the error.
Looks like the problem is language: I use Russian version of Project. Translated CurrentDate to Russian and it worked! Jan, I tried the formula you provided. It shows 0 days overdue for a task due last Friday. Today is Monday so it should show 1 day overdue, no?
What should the formula be to show days overdue only for overdue tasks? I configured Flag1 to be Overdue flag using the formula from Guillaume. Thus until , the delay is not yet 1 day, such it shows 0. Just as a comment, you could update the formula as following so it does not consider task that are not overdue for calculating the delay:. Erm, overdue. How about adding in the Status column, and then grouping by that.
You’ll need to set the status date so try this process. Update your tasks as necessary. Is you installation fully updated? That’s why we can’t say it is overdue because according to the switch statement criteria, it is not. First, have you considered using the built-in Status field? It already provides the type of information you are seeking. Second, if you decide you still want to use a custom field formula, there are some edits you can make to your Switch statement.
It is simply a point in time for evaluation of the project’s progress. Therefore it should not be part of the formula. In any multiple criteria function, the first thing to do is to eliminate any elements that do not need to be considered. Is there a way you know of how to show the overdue tasks against the baseline. What exactly is your definition of “overdue”?
I think that the obvious one would be that the task was originally ie baseline scheduled to finish sometime in the past relative to the status date, but the currently scheduled finish date is later than the baseline finish.
With this simple definition, it doesn’t really matter whether or not the task has actually started, ie has an actual start, or whether the scheduled finish is to the left or right of the status date. The status date is just the boundary between the past and the future, and it is not an attribute of a particular task. Why do you say that Total Slack is part of the definition of “Late”? If you enter a deadline date before the end of the task’s total slack, total slack will be recalculated by using the deadline date rather than the task’s late finish date. The task becomes critical if the total slack reaches zero. Click a task and view its slack values in the Free Slack and Total Slack fields. You can also use the Free Slack field to determine how to recover a schedule that is slipping. Total slack is the amount of time a task can be delayed before the project finish date is delayed. If total slack is a positive number, it indicates the amount of time that the task can be delayed without delaying the project finish date.
If total slack is a negative number, it indicates the amount of time that must be saved so that the project finish date is not delayed. Negative slack indicates that there is not enough time scheduled for the task and is usually caused by constraint dates.
By default and by definition, a task with 0 slack is considered a critical task. In the Views list, click Detail Gantt , and then click Apply. On the View menu, point to Table , and then click Schedule. Ig the highlight filter is activated, this row will be highlighted as well.
